All 8 Weeks of
Summer Camp

Filled at
Ockanickon!

As you can see on the chart below the
Ockanickon summer program was attended by over 2,700 Boy Scouts
this summer with an even distribution over all eight weeks of
camp. With the help of many hundreds of unit leaders and careful
planning we were able to maximize the quality of the program for
all campers and still minimize overcrowding.

Ideal attendance was only one of the things
that made this year so great! We also had an excellent, well
trained staff, a constantly improving camp facility, and a well
designed program to meet the needs of all our campers. All in
all, 2002 was a great year to be at Boy Scout Summer Camp at
Ockanickon Scout Reservation!

2003 Summer Camp Weeks are already filling up so contact us
soon if your troop is planning on coming to Ockanickon next
year.

2002 Summer Program Report

As you can see by the numbers above, attendance at our many
special program activities like the Polar Bear Swim, Mountain
Biking, Rock Climbing, C.O.P.E. and even Wood Burning soared.

Across the program areas our staff did some really fine work
this year.  In Aquatics, Dan Rowley and his staff had a
great summer with lots of participation and outstanding Wednesday
night Water Carnivals.  With the Science Center addition
completed this year, Carol Moyer and her staff offered an even
bigger, high tech program to all the scouts and their
leaders.  Our Handicraft Department under Lois Truit, can
proudly claim to have served 32% of all our campers with their
outstanding activities and program.  In the Eagle Department
we’d like to thank Todd Warner for doing a great job of filling
in for John Gorman when needed.  Finally, Jeff Menaker, our
C.O.P.E. & Mountain Biking Director saw increased attendance
in both programs.

We also had several new department heads this year.  Wood
Burning,  under Frank Yakovich, was a new

and very popular program.  Dennis Curran served his first
year as the Scoutcraft Director and had a great year except for
the Tuesday night thunderstorms.  The Ecology Department
also had a new, very knowledgeable director in Leanne Vasold, who
offered a number of additional badges to scouts.  Tom Bailey
served as the Dan Beard Director where he was quite busy teaching
scout skills to younger scouts.  In Shooting Sports Dick
Whitley had a great (and busy) year.  Finally, our Rock
Climbing program was expanded this year with the addition of Ryan
Bagwell as the director of that exciting program.

In the Camp Management we had some new faces as well as some
dependable, familiar ones.  Lynne Rosenberger continued as
our Camp Health Officer with the assistance of Saret Moats and
Val Wesolowich.  In the office Carol Vasold and Dave Fischer
served as Assistant Camp Directors as Mark Breon finished his
first year as the Program Director of the best Boy Scout Summer
Camp around.

Hope to see you all next
year!
