Why C.O.P.E.

The objectives of the C.O.P.E. Program are: Teamwork, Communications, Trust, Leadership, Decision Making, Problem Solving, Self-Esteem and FUN.

If this sounds like the kind of objectives your troop has for its scouts why not make C.O.P.E. part of your program this Fall or Spring? Ockanickon's C.O.P.E. Course is available for use on the following weekends in 2008:

A C.O.P.E. Weekend at Ockanickon can include: Low Course Elements (which any boy scout can participate in), High Course Elements , and Rock Climbing. (Call for details) Here's a typical schedule: Arrive at camp Friday night and settle in your campsite or cabin. Saturday morning, initiative games and then the Low Course for all your scouts. In the afternoon the high course. On Sunday rock climbing is available.

Logistics:
Start by contacting the C.O.P.E. Chairman, Randy Whalen (610) 323-2346, to Schedule your weekend and customize your troop's program. Then your troop should rent a campsite or cabin at Ockanickon for the weekend you plan to do the C.O.P.E. Program. Your troop must supply its own food for the weekend. Minimum of 8 participants.

Specific items your Scouts need to bring: All participants must wear long pants, a sleeved T-shirt, and soft soled shoes. Hiking boots are not permitted on the course. At least a Class 1 medical form is needed from all participants. All climbing equipment (harnesses, ropes, helmets, and gloves) are supplied by Ockanickon.

Trust Fall Program Fees: The cost of a C.O.P.E. Weekend for boy Scouts are listed below: Low Course and initiative games (half day) $10 per participant, High Course (half-day) $20 per participant, and Rock Climbing (1/2 day) $20 per participant. Proceeds go to maintaining our equipment and improving the course.
